The last Farmer’s Table of the year is a special treat! Learning where your food comes from and how it is grown can be a difficult task. That is why we are delighted to partner with Whippoorwill Creek Farm for the last dinner of the season. Pre-dinner (6pm), you will have an opportunity to hear from owners Beth and John as they share the challenges and importance of regeneratively raising beef and goats in Iowa. Beth will tell us about her book Bet the Farm: The Dollars and Sense of Growing Food in America. Dinner, featuring products from both our farms will begin at 6:30.
Whippoorwill Creek Farm offers cooking and writing classes (taught by John and Beth) and overnight stays. They are passionate about helping people discover truly "good" food--meats and vegetables that were raised well, nourish the body, and taste amazing.
John Hogeland grew up on the farm in Iowa, was trained as a chef and butcher in San Francisco, and now raises grass-finished beef and goats. He teaches butchery, cooking and team building classes.
Beth Hoffman has been reporting on food and agriculture for more than twenty-five years, including NPR’s Morning Edition and the Guardian, and is the author of Bet the Farm: The Dollars and Sense of Growing Food in America, a book about the economics of farming, told through her story of moving to the farm.
The menu this evening will be a combination of product from both our farms and will be posted a few weeks before the dinner. Ticket price for the dinner is $85 charged at the time of the reservation, refundable up to 7 days prior to the event. Please make us aware of any allergies or dietary restrictions. Reservations may be taken online or over the phone: (319) 351-4791. The week of the dinner, we will send out a reminder and details of the menu.
